The Piedmont College softball team has advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championship semifinals by defeating Bethel College 5-2 and then winning over host Indiana Wesleyan University 5-4 in nine innings. The Lady Lions are now one game away from the championship game as they square off against top-seeded Olivet-Nazarene University tomorrow morning.
Meredith Ray threw a complete-game victory in game one and recorded the win in game two pitching two and two-thirds innings of relief. On the day she struck out 12 hitters allowing only two runs.
Marissa Harding led the way in game one going 3-4 with a pair of RBI's. May Alves and Heather Denne both went 3-5 in game two with Alves collecting 3 RBI's as well. The Lady Lions pounded out 17 hits and scored ten runs on day one of the tournament.
Tomorrow's semifinal game will take place at 10:00. The loser will return to action again immediately following while the winner will wait until 2:00 for the national championship game.
