Using an offensive explosion and a pair of shutouts, the Piedmont College softball team opened Great South Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of host Huntingdon College by the scores of 7-0 and 8-0 this afternoon in Montgomery, AL. PC recorded 22 hits in fourteen innings en route to the two shutouts.
Meredith Ray tallied a victory on the mound in game one improving her record to 4-1. Lindsay Drevlow notched the victory in game two improving her record to 2-1. The two combined for nine strikeouts and only 11 hits in the doubleheader.
Offensively the Lady Lions were led by Megan Day who went 7-8 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Emily Maxey went 3-5 with three RBI's and Mandy Fuston went 3-7 with and RBI and two runs scored.
The sweep moves PC to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions will return to action again on Monday, March 13th as they host GSAC opponent Spelman College with the doubleheader set for 2:00.
