WHAT'S UP NEXT:
- The next few events on the cycling schedule include trips to Carolina for the SECCC Conference Championship and out west to Grand Junction for the Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING:
Hear from Cycling Coach
Jame Carney on the team's performance following the event:
THE FROSTY TAKE:
- The course was a 48-mile mountain bike race with some gravel mixed in, very difficult and the conditions this year made it even more difficult
- While some of the team was at Collegiate Track Nationals, other members of the team raced the Fool's Gold mountain bike race in Dahlonega.
- The race started at an easy pace, but the bad conditions started early. The rain had already begun before the start of the race but started very calmly.
-
Tyler Rogers launched the first attack of the race on the first major climb about 7 miles into the race. Two other riders had the strength to go with him. They stayed together until the Winding Stair descent at about mile 20, when Rogers dropped them. This is about when the rain really started to pick up. The conditions added another level of difficulty to an already very difficult race. Rogers stayed solo until he was caught at the very end of the singletrack. These two rode together until the end, where it came down to a sprint finish, with Rogers taking the win.
- Rogers took the overall win as well as he in in his category.
Aidan Diaz also braved the conditions and finished top 5 in his category.
