MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Piedmont women's tennis conquered Covenant 4-0 in the CCS Semifinals to advance to their 5th consecutive conference championship appearance tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The Lions came out aggressive from the start, with
Brooklyn Bolch and
Sarah Row at No. 3 doubles leading the charge to 6-0 in short time. At No. 1,
Ella Kate Canaday and
Kaleigh Stallworth battled to a 6-1 win, securing the doubles point.
Canaday's win at No.1 doubles marked her 23rd doubles win of the season, breaking the program record for Single Season Doubles Wins, previously held by Assistant Coach
Bri Laidman at 22 wins.
The doubles point clinch brought a surge of energy to the Lions as 5 of the 6 singles matches defeated the Scots in their first sets.
Hattie Sloyan was the first to add a point to the Lions' score, winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles while
Caroline Morrison battled at No. 3 after taking her first set 6-3.
Olivia Carpenter pushed the Lions to a 3-0 lead with her 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, putting the pressure on Covenant to make a move. Simultaneously,
Jordan Ballard cruised through the first set 6-3 before the Scots stole the second set, demanding a third at No. 6 singles.
In an valiant effort, Stallworth took the court against 2026 CCS Rookie of the Year, Maisie Tanchanpongs, at No. 1 singles falling 5-7 in the first set. Stallworth came out hot in the second set, winning the first game and sparking energy for herself and the three Lions still competing at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 6.
Canaday soared through her first set 6-2. To complement an already successful morning, Canaday won 3 consecutive games late in the second set to earn a 7-5 win and clinch the match at 4-0 for the Lions.
The win continues the Lions' streak of appearances in the CCS Championship Final, being the only team in the conference to reach the final every year since the creation of the conference.
Piedmont women's tennis will continue their post-season run tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Murfreesboro Tenn. in hopes of championing the CCS Tournament for the third time in four years.
