SEWANEE, Tenn. - Piedmont men's tennis was unable to slow down No. 13 Sewanee, falling 7-0 on Sunday in Tennessee.
The loss closes out Piedmont's regular season with an 11-9 record, marking the fifth consecutive season in which the Lions have amassed a winning season.
Despite the tall task of taking on Division III's 13th ranked team, the Lions provided some resistance in a number of matches.
Doubles, however, did go Sewanee's way in decisive fashion. The Tigers won, 6-1, at No. 2 and 6-2 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point before taking a win at No. 1 as well.
The Tigers quickly clinched the match with a trio of straight set wins at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 6. However, in the remaining three matches, Piedmont forced the Tigers to the limit, but could not get one across the line.
Horacio Rodriguez forced his match at No. 5 to a full third set due to winning the first set, 6-3, before falling in the next two.
Charlles Parnell played a pair of marathon sets in a 7-6 (2), 7-5 loss while
Rohan Kavali did the same, falling in a pair of tiebreaks, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7).
Up next, postseason play begins as the Lions look to make it to a fourth consecutive CCS Tournament Final. The tournament is set to get underway this Thursday, April 23 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
