LAGRANGE, GA. - The Piedmont baseball team fell in extra innings to the in-state foe, LaGrange, by a final of 7-6 in 11 innings.
Piedmont opened the game with an early 5-1 lead but failed to add on throughout the contest, allowing LaGrange to get back into the game.
The Lions offense was strong early on, with three runs in the first from strong and smart base running and a Ben Connelly two-RBI double in the second. The offense, however, was stifled for the remainder of the contest, scoring just one more run from a Cruz Mullinix RBI single.
Andrew Misirly went seven innings and entered the eighth with a 6-3 lead. Misirly ran into trouble, and with two on, the Lions went to Luke Manry. Manry could not stop the Panther rally, allowing two to score, cutting the Piedmont lead to one.
With a one-run contest. Misirly came back out for the ninth and recorded the first two outs with ease. LaGrange, down to its final out, struck for three straight singles, tying the game and sending it to extra innings.
Both sides remained scoreless through the tenth until the eleventh where LaGrange loaded the bases and brought home the winning run on a hit by pitch.
Next, the Lions look to bounce back with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch tomorrow against LaGrange.
TURNING POINT:
- The Panthers' late rally that gave them the momentum to strike in the eleventh.
