LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Piedmont men's tennis team fell 6-1 in a heart breaker to the Eagles of Asbury on Saturday afternoon after a delayed start from a sudden location change.

Doubles came out hot with energy as Leyton Dunn and Charles Parnell breezed to a 6-3 win at No. 1 to give Piedmont a leg up towards the doubles point. Unfortunately, the Eagles quickly answered, taking No. 2 (6-2) and No. 3 (6-4) to steal the doubles point from the Lions.

In singles, the Lions pushed from the start at No. 1 and No. 3 in search of a win, but were unable to grab ahold of either match, knocking the Lions down 3-0 with four matches still in progress. Parnell battled to a 6-2 second-set win after dropping the first 3-6 to force a full third set at No. 2 with hopes of delaying an Asbury clinch and giving the Lions another chance. Though he fought with determination throughout the match, the Eagles scrambled to a 7-5 win, clinching the match in the third set with the Eagles up 4-0.

After the clinch, Caleb McElveen stepped out onto the court at No. 6 singles and delivered the Lions only win of the day, 6-4, 6-0.

The Lions battled through close sets, with No. 4 Rohan Kavali and No. 5 Horacio Rodriguez forcing third-set tiebreakers in an attempt to close the gap in the Eagles' win. After a standout effort, Kavali fell 0-1 (9) in the tiebreak as the last match on court for the day.

Up next, the Lions will travel to Sewanee on April 19 to take on the No. 13 ranked Tigers at 10 a.m.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Dunn and Parnell championed No. 1 doubles 6-3 over the Eagles.
- McElveen delivered the Lions sole win of the day, 6-4, 6-0.
