Limehouse's Big Day Leads Women's Lacrosse to 15-9 Road Win at Southern Virginia

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 15, Southern Virginia 9
Records: Piedmont, 3-4 (1-0 USA South); Southern Virginia, 1-3 (1-1 USA South)

BUENA VISTA, Va. - Savannah Limehouse's five goal performance was more than enough to lead Piedmont women's lacrosse past Southern Virginia in a 15-9 road win on Saturday afternoon in Virginia.

In the team's USA South opener, the Lions bounced back from a tough stretch against a difficult schedule, taking control of the game early to take a big road win and regain momentum with the full conference slate ahead.

Limehouse was the offensive star, setting a new season high mark with her five goals. The standout junior has now scored 10 times in the team's last three games. However, she was not the only Lion to have a big day, as four players tallied multiple goals and four players also had multiple assists.

Laura Crone dished out a season-best four assists while Lovette Choloh, Carson Bezold and Avery Washington had two each. Although Limehouse was the only hat trick of the day, Clara Welch, Choloh and Crone each scored twice.

On the defensive side, goalie Ansli Cannon made eight saves as the Knight actually held a small shot advantage over Piedmont for the game.

The game was back and forth in the opening minutes, with neither side able to separate by more than a goal. Piedmont quickly flipped the script, however, reeling off a 7-0 run overlapping the first and second quarters to take complete control of the contest.

Limehouse scored three times in the stretch, including back-to-back goals near the end of the furious run. The 7-0 scoring barrage was punctuated by a Reagan Martinez goal, her first as a Lion.

Although the teams played the second half evenly, the works was done from the Piedmont side, as it coasted home with a six-goal win to begin its USA South schedule.

Up next, the Lions will remain in Virginia, but step out of conference play to battle Lynchburg tomorrow, March 8 at 12 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont used a 7-0 run in the first half to build an insurmountable lead over the Knights.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Limehouse delivered a season-high five goals and also led the team with three draw controls.
- Crone dished out a season-best four assists in the win.
