DEMOREST, Ga. — The Piedmont baseball team scored early and in bunches to secure a 9-4 midweek win against the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels.
Piedmont's bats once again caused trouble, leading to an early lead.
Landon May got the start for the Lions and retired the side without trouble in the first, giving the lineup a clean slate in the bottom half.
The Lions loaded the bases with their first three batters, setting the table for the cleanup hitter, Carter Few, to bring home a pair on a two-run single. Piedmont didn't cease the scoring, bringing home two more on a groundout and another run on a Jack Ryan RBI single.
Oglethorpe answered in the top of the second with a run, but the Piedmont pitching staff limited the damage to one.
Piedmont tacked on a run in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth with another Few two-run base knock and another Ryan RBI single.
The Lions scored for the final time in the fifth as Cody Funk came home to score on a passed ball, giving Piedmont a 9-1 lead at the time.
Oglethorpe rallied back for one run in the seventh and two in the ninth, but the Lions' early lead was too large as Piedmont secured a Tuesday night win.
The lineup continued to flow for Piedmont, while the pitching depth pitched solid innings for the team.
Next, the Lions will travel to Wilmore, Kentucky, to start a three-game conference series with the Asbury Eagles, starting Thursday, April 2, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
