ATLANTA - Piedmont men's tennis junior
Mark Backeberg has been named the Collegiate Conference of the South Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Cape Town, South Africa native had a stellar trip to Orlando over Spring Break, going 5-0 overall, including 3-0 in singles starting last Monday, March 9.
Backeberg went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 singles, winning all three matches in straight sets.
He also contributed in doubles, going 3-0 with wins at No. 3, No. 2 and No. 1. He lost only three total games across the three doubles matches, going 2-0 with
Rohan Kavali and 1-0 with
Leyton Dunn.
This marks Backeberg's first career CCS Player of the Week award after being named CCS Rookie of the Week three times in his debut season in 2023.
