PINEHURST, N.C. - The No. 16 Piedmont Men's Golf team concluded play at the Tiger Invitational in Pinehurst, North Carolina on Monday, banking its second consecutive top-10 finish to begin the spring.
The Lions fell back three spots from their position beginning the day, but still finished only one stroke behind No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and four behind No. 7 Washington & Lee.
Jacob DeJesus led the Lions on Tuesday, vaulting himself up the leaderboard with an even par round of 72 that included three birdies and nothing worse than bogey on his card.
Doug Gugel continued his remarkably consistent play, backing up his first two even par rounds with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. Gugel began his day on a strong note, making three consecutive birdies to start his round.
Freshman
Bradley Knowles bounced back from a difficult second round to post a 2-over 74 and three birdies of his own.
Fellow freshman
Braden Kiley along with senior
Adam Rogers delivered 5-over 77's, with Rogers entering the day in a tie for second, but still holding for a T-12th finish.
This marks the second consecutive event to begin the spring in which the Lions have not had a single round in the 80's.
Methodist took home the team title in its home state, finishing at 13-under, six ahead of second-place Huntingdon. Emory's Kevin Mu ran away from the feld to capture the individual title by five shots, finishing at 10-under par.
