Men's Lacrosse Falls at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Piedmont men's lacrosse was unable to hold off Rhodes in a 22-11 road loss on Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee.

Although the Lions started off the game strong, leading 4-2 in the early going, the Lynx recovered with a 9-1 run in the second quarter to take control of the contest.

Zach Avila and Josh Tamarkin were the offensive leaders for the Lions, with Avilla scoring four times and Tamarkin adding three as he also dished out three assists and picked up two ground balls.

Freshman Grady Eyler continued the hot start to his freshman season, scoring twice. Will Isley, Colin Hackshaw and Eric McCuistion also added goals for the Lions.

Despite the loss, goalie Mike Eisele delivered a valiant effort, with 14 saves in just over 38 minutes in goal.

Avila and Isley opened the scoring as Piedmont led 2-0 with 10:31 left. Rhodes responded with two goals to even the score but newcomers Eyler and Tamarkin made it 4-2 in favor of Piedmont late in the first quarter.

However, Rhodes added three goals in the final 1:47 of the first quarter before the game-deciding 9-1 edge in the second quarter.

The Lynx took a 14-5 lead to the break and held off Piedmont from there, although the Lions showed fight in the final 30 minutes.

Up next, Piedmont will continue its long road stretch to start the season, taking on Berry next Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Avila and Tamarkin each recorded hat tricks, with Tamarkin also adding three assists.
