Lions Blanked in CCS Opener at Maryville

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Maryville 2, Piedmont 0
Records: Maryville, 3-2-4 (1-0 CCS); Piedmont, 4-4 (0-1 CCS)

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Piedmont men's soccer saw its offense stifled in a 2-0 loss at Maryville on Saturday afternoon.

Playing in their CCS opener, the normally potent Piedmont offense was unable to generate many chances and the Scots were able to break through with a pair of second half goals to run away with the win.

The win now marks six in a row for the Scots over the Lions in the series.

The first half was a defensive struggle that saw neither team able to find the back of the net. The two teams totaled just four shots combined with only one on target, which was saved by Piedmont's Bobby Wood.

However, Maryville was able to open the scoring in the second half as Will Gallaher tallied the eventual game winner off an assist from Brady Hammer. For good measure, the Scots tacked on one more in the 80th minute to seal the win.

Up next, the Lions will have a midweek CCS road battle, taking on Covenant this Wednesday, October 1 at 5 p.m.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- It was a physical battle with eight total yellow cards handed out between the teams.
