GREENWOOD, Ind. - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) have released their Academic All-District teams for men's tennis and the Lions earned the maximum of four honorees on the listing.
Yannick Wassmer Navarro earned honors for the second straight season whle junior
Connor Phelps and sophomores
Mark Backeberg and
Charles Parnell each made their debut on the listing, with Backeberg and Parnell earning honors in their first year of eligibility.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.Â
Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 3, 2025 (women) and June 4, 2025 (men).

Backeberg was a fixture in the Piedmont singles and doubles lineup as a sophomore, earning CCS Doubles Team of the Week with Wassmer Navarro early in the season and continued his solid doubles play, earning a 17-5 dual record. He delivered a team-high nine wins at No. 3 doubles and also won at least once at No. 1 through No. 5 singles.

After taking home CCS Rookie of the Year honors in 2024, Parnell was a force at both No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles this season. The sophomore from Peachtree City, Georgia earned eight wins at No. 2 doubles to rank second on the team. He also won five times at No. 2 singles to lead the team, including three wins in a row at the CCS Tournament to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
Connor Phelps | Jr. | Salina, Kan.

Phelps was named All-CCS Second Team in 2025, his second time in three seasons earning all-conference honors. The Salina, Kansas native went 4-1 at No. 6 singles and had three wins at No. 1 doubles to go with five wins at No. 2 doubles.

Wassmer Navarro earns Academic All-District honors for the second straight season. The junior from Madrid, Spain took home All-CCS First Team honors for the second straight season after anchoring the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles lineup spot all season. His 19 total doubles wins, counting the fall, set a new Piedmont single-season mark.
