LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Piedmont University baseball team earned a sweep in conference play with a 4-3 win over Covenant Saturday.
Bodie Eilertson got the win on the mound tossing six innings allowing just two runs.
Covenant was first to strike with a run in the first inning. Eilertson surrendered just one hit but a wild pitch put the runner in scoring position with no outs and the Scots were able to drive one across.
Piedmont was able to answer quickly getting a run in the second after
Carter Few reached on an error to start the inning. After two total errors in the frame, a
Kyle Carlson single drove in Few to tie the game.
Covenant used three straight singles to load the bases in the bottom of the third, and despite turning a double play, the Lions conceded a run as the Scots reclaimed the lead 2-1.
The Lions were undeterred and two free bases to start the fifth were a solid start to a rally for Piedmont.
Ben Connelly had an RBI single to tie the game and Few posted an RBI ground out to jump in front 3-2.
Few added another run for Piedmont in the seventh which allowed Eilertson to exit with a 4-2 lead as
Andrew Misirly pitched the seventh before
Braden Simms came in to start the eighth.
An error by Simms ended up costing a run, but he was able to work two innings allowing one unearned run and struck out two on his way to his seventh save of the season.
