DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont senior
Zeke Swartz tossed a complete game in the Lions' 3-1 win over LaGrange Friday evening. Swartz allowed just six hits and one unearned run while striking out 12 batters.
Swartz worked a 1-2-3 inning in both the first and the second as he struck out the side in the second. Piedmont was the first to record a hit in the game in the bottom of the second but it took until the fourth for a run to come across.
With the bases loaded and
Tucker Ausband at the plate, a wild pitch drove in the first run of the game. Swartz struck out two more in the fifth to have eight strikeouts through 18 batters faced.
The Panthers struck in the sixth inning after a pair of singles and an error to tie the game, but the run was unearned.
Piedmont was not deterred coming back with their own run in the home half of the inning to take back the lead and added another in the seventh for good measure.
After another three up, three down inning in the eighth, Swartz was given the green light to close out the contest and did so with another quick inning in the ninth.
Up next, Piedmont will continue the series with LaGrange on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
