Lions Leave No Doubt in 9-0 Win at Huntingdon

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 9, Huntingdon 0
Records: Piedmont, 24-10 (10-4 CCS); Huntingdon, 17-15 (6-8 CCS)

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont University baseball team earned a 9-0 win over Huntingdon Friday to take game two of the series. Peyton Irvin earned the win on the mound tossing 7.2 scoreless innings allowing just six hits and striking out four.

A single, walk, single brought in the first run of the game four batters in to put Piedmont ahead early. A walk and an error for the Hawks proved costly in the third as Piedmont tacked on another run without a hit to increase the lead to 2-0.

Piedmont used back-to-back doubles by Cody Funk and Ben Connelly to start the fifth inning to provide more offense for the Lions who took a 4-0 lead after five.

Peyton Irvin allowed just two hits through six innings ending the day surrendering six but maintained a clean sheet with no runs. The Hawks' best opportunity came in the eighth when they had runners on the corners with two away and the Lions went to the bullpen.

Andrew Misirly was able to get the final out on a fielder's choice and keep the clean slate heading to the ninth.

The Piedmont offense was not done in the game as they lit up for four runs on five hits despite a double play in the inning. With a 9-0 lead, Misirly closed it out in the ninth and ended the game on a strikeout.

Piedmont batters were hit five times (five different batters) in the contest Friday.

Up next, the series finale will take place on Saturday.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont continued to chip away with a run or two per inning until the ninth when the Lions closed the door with four runs.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- The Piedmont pitching staff of Peyton Irvin and Andrew Misirly combined to allow just seven hits and one free base in the shutout.
