MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont University baseball team dropped the series finale at Huntingdon 7-4 Saturday. A costly error in the third allowed the Hawks to score four unearned and claim the lead.
Piedmont was first on the board just two batters in after
Cody Funk doubled and stole third and was driven in by
Ben Connelly. The Lions were back to the top of the order in the third to kickstart a two-run inning to claim a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks had two on with two outs in the third when an error by the Lions allowed the first run of the frame to score sparking an offensive outburst from Huntingdon. The Lions surrendered four runs on four hits and an error to fall behind 4-3.
Bodie Eilertson's day ended in the fifth inning as
Lucas Tritt entered from the bullpen after the Hawks added a fifth run.
The Lions got one back after an error in the sixth but it was not enough as the Hawks added runs in the seventh and eighth as well.
Up next, the series finale will take place on Saturday.
