Women's Lacrosse Wins Second Straight, Dismantles Greensboro 22-1

DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's lacrosse delivered its second straight dominant performance in a 22-1 win over Greensboro on a beautiful Saturday in Demorest.

The Lions scored 10 times in the opening quarter as the game quickly moved to a running clock with Piedmont in possession most of the game.

Senior Aly Reece tallied a season-high seven assists and tied for the team lead with seven total points. Laura Crone continued her dominant week, with three goals and four assists.

Ava Trankina and Clara Welch each poured in four goals and added an assist. Welch's four goals ties her season high, set Thursday against N.C. Wesleyan. Merryn Bumpass and Savannah Limehouse also delivered hat tricks, scoring three times each with Bumpass adding two assists and Limehouse adding another. Carson Bezold tied Crone for second on the team, dishing out four assists.

The scoring started early for the Lions, with three goals in the first 40 seconds of game action as Bumpass assisted on the first two goals and scored the third.

Piedmont led 8-0 before the Pride scored their first and only goal of the game with six minutes left in the opening quarter. 

However, from there, it was all Piedmont, which allowed just three total shots and held Greensboro to 5-of-22 on clear attempts.

The Lions also held a 22-5 edge in draw controls, frequently gaining and controlling possession throughout the game.

Up next, the Lions will head to Puerto Rico for Spring Break, with a pair of contests beginning this Monday, March 10 against Mount Saint Mary College (NY).


TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont scored three times in the first minute and 10 times in the first quarter to run away from the Pride.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Aly Reece and Laura Crone paced the team with seven points each.
- Clara Welch and Ava Trankina added four goals and an assist each.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lions held a 42-3 shot advantage and doubled Greensboro in ground balls, with a 28-14 edge in that category.
