DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's lacrosse scored early and often in a 23-0 home rout of N.C. Wesleyan on a cold and windy Thursday afternoon in Demorest.

Playing in their USA South opener, the Lions left no doubt, leading 15-0 at the half and adding four goals in each of the third and fourth quarters to fall just one goal shy of a program single game goal record.

Standout senior Ava Trankina was a force on both offense and defense Thursday, as she tied for the team lead with six assists and paced the team with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.

On her third point of the game, she reached the 200 career point mark for her career.

The wealth was spread across the team on Thursday, as 11 different players scored goals for Piedmont, led by a season-best four from Clara Welch. Savannah Limehouse, Aly Reece and Merryn Bumpass each added three while freshman Savannah Ivie scored her first two career goals.

Although Trankina and Laura Crone paced the team with her six assists, Reece and Carson Bezold added three apiece.

Defenders Jaiden Ramatowski and Kaylee Moreland joined the goal scoring parade, scoring in the second half for their first goals of the season.

Defensively, Piedmont stifled the Battling Bishops, holding them without a single shot attempt and forcing 24 turnovers.

The Lions also allowed just one successful clear attempt in the game.

Up next, Piedmont will be back at home in USA South action, hosting Greensboro this Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m.
