DEMOREST, Ga. - On a cold, windy night at Loudermilk Field, the Piedmont University baseball team was not able to keep pace with Adrian in a 13-4 loss. The Bulldogs totaled 18 hits and scored 10 runs in the first two innings to take control of the contest.
Piedmont starter
Layne Ayers lasted for 1.2 innings allowing those first 10 runs with seven being earned before it was pitching by committee. The Lions used a total of seven pitchers in the game with
Andrew Misirly going the longest with 2.1 innings pitched allowing one earned run and three hits.
Adrian piled on quickly with 10 runs in the first two innings and scored 11 through the first three. From the fourth-ninth innings, Piedmont allowed just seven hits and a pair of runs.
Piedmont scored in the third after a
Cody Funk triple and a
Trace Cate sac fly, then added two more runs in the seventh inning. After a fielder's choice and an error, the Lions coupled a pair of walks with it for
Cruz Mullinix to have a 2-RBI single.
Justin Shaffer tripled to lead off the eighth inning and Piedmont scored one, but left the bases loaded with 14 total runners left on in the contest.
Up next, the Lions will be on the road at Methodist for a three game series beginning on Friday.
