SEWANEE, Tenn. - Piedmont men's tennis was unable to overcome a tough test at No. 29 Sewanee, falling 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions were competitive in all three doubles matches. Unfortunately, the Tigers prevailed in all three and took the momentum into singles action, winning all three singles lines in straight sets.

While The Tigers were able to win by one break at No. 2 (6-4) and No. 3 (6-3) doubles and take the doubles point, that did not stop Piedmont's No. 1 doubles team of Yannick Wassmer Navarro and Simon Johnstone from battling until the end. The duo took Sewanee's Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund, 7-6 (6).

Singles action saw Sewanee establish control early, winning in straight sets in all six matches.

Mark Backeberg was competitive at No. 3, falling 6-4, 6-4 in a couple of hard fought sets. 

At No. 6 singles, freshman Horacio Rodriguez took his opponent to the brink in the first set, eventually falling 7-5, 6-2.

Up next, the Lions will host Asbury on Senior Day next Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m.
