DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont men's tennis was unable to overcome a slow start, falling to Asbury 5-2 on a hot Saturday afternoon in Demorest.

The Eagles were able to clinch the doubles point with a hard-fought 6-4 win at No. 1. Piedmont then held a lead in the No. 2 doubles match, but Asbury rallied back to win in a tiebreak and keep momentum heading into singles.

Piedmont quickly fell at No. 3 and No. 1 singles, putting the Eagles one win away from clinching.

However, Yannick Wassmer Navarro stood up at No. 2, winning a three-setter 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 to put the first point on the board for the Lions.

Unfortunately, there was no comeback in the cards Saturday, as the Eagles clinched the match with a pair of straight set wins at No. 5 and No. 4.

Connor Phelps closed the match on a high note at No. 6, winning 7-6 (4), 6-4 at No. 6.

Prior to the match, the Lions honored JC Foster, Simon Johnstone, Phelps, Wassmer Navarro and Bryce VanOrder for their contributions to the program.

Up next, the Lions will be in action against LaGrange and UC Santa Cruz this Friday, April 11 in LaGrange, Georgia.
