Men's Tennis Drops Road Match to Oglethorpe

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Oglethorpe 7, Piedmont 0
Records: Piedmont, 10-6; Oglethorpe, 7-3

ATLANTA - Piedmont men's tennis stepped out of conference and fell, 7-0, at Oglethorpe on Tuesday night in Atlanta.

The Lions were unable to grab a point in the match as the Stormy Petrels took the doubles point and then carried the momentum into singles action.

Oglethorpe clinched first at No. 1 doubles before Piedmont's No. 3 team of Amir Latipov and Mark Backeberg prevailed 6-2 at No. 3 to even things up. However, with the doubles point up for grabs, the Stormy Petrels won a hard-fought match, 7-5, at No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead going to singles.

The Lions fought in the first set in singles play, winning the first set in three of the six matches. Unfortunately, they were unable to force any of those to a third and did not close any matches in straight sets.

Overall, Oglethorpe won three matches in straight sets and then won all three full third sets to take the match 7-0.

Up next, the Lions will be back in action with a key CCS match at Covenant, scheduled for this Friday, March 28 at 3 p.m.
