Reece Breaks Career Assist Record in Road Loss at Meredith 19-5

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Meredith 19, Piedmont 5
Records: Piedmont, 7-5 (3-1 USA South); Meredith, 8-2 (3-0 USA South)

RALEIGH, N.C.  - Piedmont women's lacrosse faced its first tough test in conference play on Saturday afternoon falling to Meredith College on the road by a 19-5 scoreline.

The loss to the Avenging Angels snapped a 6-game winning streak for the Lions who accomplished the same such feat in 2023 before falling to Meredith in the regular season that spring as well.

Early on, the Lions hung tough with the hosting conference powerhouse as Lovette Choloh's score in the opening minutes cut the Meredith lead to a one-goal advantage.

However, the home team then caught the visiting Lions in a momentary lapse scoring seven straight goals over the next six minutes of action to take control of the contest.

Piedmont's Carson Bezold scored in the 2nd quarter to stop the Angels' scoring streak but the Lions were outscored 14-1 in that stretch as Meredith went on to claim victory in the conference clash.

Despite the loss, late in the 3rd quarter saw a career moment for Piedmont's own Aly Reece who only needed one assist on the afternoon to cement her place in the career record books for Piedmont women's lacrosse breaking what many thought was an breakable mark of 125 career assists set by Maggie McDaniel.

McDaniel was one of the first stalwarts of the Piedmont women's lacrosse program playing in the inaugural season of 2013 through 2016.  Reece, who tallied her 126th career assist against Meredith earlier Saturday, now takes sole possession of 1st place in that category in the Piedmont record books.

Up next, the Lions will be on the road next Saturday at Pfeiffer continuing conference action.

TURNING POINT:
- The six minute barage of scoring that saw Meredith post seven goals to take control of the match-up midway through the 1st quarter.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Aly Reece's 126th career assist helped her take her place atop the career record books in that category as she now stands alone.
- Piedmont's Savannah Limehouse picked up a game-high six draw controls to lead all players on the afternoon in that category while adding a pair of goals as well.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- In the last five seasons, Piedmont has established a winning streak of at least six games in three of those seasons with the longest coming at eight straight wins in 2021.
- On all three occassions when the Lions have won at least six games in a row in the last five years, it has been the Avenging Angels who brought those streaks to an end.
