DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont men's lacrosse was unable to contain a tough Rhodes team in a 14-7 home loss Sunday afternoon in Demorest.
Despite a late first quarter rally that saw the Lions overcome an early 3-0 deficit, The Lynx regained control and ran away with the win thanks to stifling defense over the final three quarters.
Sophomores
Joseph Whitmore and
Nick Winter led the way offensively for the Lions, with each scoring two goals. Faceoff specialist
Noah Glenzinski had a solid day as well, winning 15-of-21.
On the defensive end, senior
Andrew Pagano stepped up with five ground balls and a season-best five caused turnovers.
It was all Rhodes at the start, with a flurry of three quick goals before the first four minutes were played. However, Piedmont was able to settle in with back-to-back mid first quarter goals from Whitmore.
Winter then added two in a row late in the opening quarter to give the Lions a brief 5-4 advantage. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived, as the Lynx answered back with a 4-0 run to grab an 8-5 advantage at the half, holding Piedmont scoreless for the entirety of the second quarter.
Although Piedmont opened the scoring on a goal from
John Dieterly early in the second half, it was all Rhodes from there, holding Piedmont off the scoreboard until the final minutes of the contest.
Up next, the Lions will begin conference play with a road trip to LaGrange, coming on Tuesday, March 11 at 6 p.m.
