DEMOREST, Ga. - In the finale for the weekend, Piedmont baseball was unable to complete a comeback against Greensboro in a 9-6 loss at Loudermilk Field Sunday. The Pride were able to use big innings to take the lead and hold on despite five runs in the final three innings for the Lions.
Greensboro hopped on starter
Adam Metivier in the second inning with three straight singles to start the inning. The Pride totaled five hits in the inning to drive in three runs forcing the Lions to the bullpen as
Peyton Irvin took over.
The Lions did answer in the home half of the second with a
Cole Ellis sac fly bringing in
Ben Connelly.
Peyton Irvin pitched 3.1 innings as he pitched through the fifth, but in that inning, a play with a pair of errors on it ended up proving costly with three runs scoring in the frame, though all three were unearned.
With a 6-1 lead, the Pride went right back to work in the sixth off
Harris Bryson with three more runs though those were all unearned as well. Piedmont trailed 9-1, but with the bases loaded,
Kyle Carlson blasted his first home run of the season for a grand slam to cut the deficit to 9-5.
Piedmont was able to plate one more run in the ninth but with the tying run at the plate, the Pride escaped Demorest with a victory.
Up next, the Lions will host Adrian on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Loudermilk Field
