ATLANTA, Ga. - The Piedmont University baseball team was on the losing end of an offensive showdown Sunday in an 18-11 loss at #25 Emory. The Lions took the series winning the first two contests before Sunday's loss snapped a three game win streak.
The Lions jumped out early with four runs in the first, but Emory answered back with four to match in the home half. Neither team scored in the second but the Lions tacked on two in the third.
Bodie Eilertson exited the game in the third giving way to
Layne Ayers after the Eagles scored four runs on two hits in the third to lead 8-6. The Lions continued to fight offensively but never added more than two runs in an inning while the Eagles scored three or more in four innings of play.
The Lions used a total of six pitchers in the game as Eilertson took the loss tossing 2.1 innings and no reliever saw more than 1.2 innings of work.
Piedmont totaled 14 hits with
Carter Few leading the way going 4-for-4 while
Ben Connelly added three and
Jack Ryan had a pair.
Up next, Piedmont travels to Belhaven to open conference play on Friday.
