DEMOREST, Ga. - Despite a late comeback, the Piedmont men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Maryville Tuesday evening 75-74. The Lions led by two with 12 seconds to play but a last second 3-pointer gave the Scots the win.

The Lions kept it close through much of the contest building as much as a six point lead in the first half. The Scots led at the break 36-33, but Piedmont was undeterred and tied the game early in the second half.

Piedmont again claimed a six point lead with 14:20 to play, but Maryville erased it with a 16-0 run to take a 61-51 lead. Trailing by 10, the Lions continued to claw back and eventually reclaimed the lead after an Israel Hall dunk and 3-pointer.

In the final four minutes of play, it was never more than a two point game as Piedmont led 72-70 after Jackson Houston converted 1-of-2 from the line with 1:41 to play.

Maryville made a layup to tie with 28 seconds remaining but Dylan Patrick made a layup to put the Lions ahead 74-72 with 12 seconds remaining. On the final possession for the Scots, Jamal Ware banked a 3-pointer to take the lead with 0.8 seconds remaining and the Lions were not successful on a last ditch effort.

Next, the Lions conclude the home schedule with senior day on Saturday against Warren Wilson at 4 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- A 3-pointer inside the final second by the Scots sealed the fate of the Lions.
