Men's Lacrosse Strengthens Case as Kings of Georgia with Dominant 19-11 Win Over In-State OU

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 19, Oglethorpe 11
Records: Piedmont, 3-1; Oglethorpe 1-4

DEMOREST, Ga. - In another match-up of Georgia-based, Division III lacrosse programs at the Walker Athletic Complex, it was the Piedmont University men's lacrosse team who again came out on top winning 19-11 over visiting Oglethorpe University earlier Saturday afternoon.

Piedmont has now won all ten games in the series with the Stormy Petrels with this weekend's win marking the 8th time in those ten games that the Lions have been victorious by eight goals or more.

The Lions raced out to the early lead scoring just 31 seconds into the contest when Jacob Hasbrouck was successful on a solo effort at the cage before his teammate Troy Mears doubled the lead for the home squad just moments later with his first score of the day.

Oglethorpe's Michael Fox scored at the 11:40 mark of the first quarter to give the visitors a glimmer of hope cutting the lead to just 2-1.

But just as the clouds and cold rolled into Walker Athletic Complex to give the opposition an ominous feeling, that glimmer of hope quickly faded as Piedmont scored the next ten goals in the game over two quarters to take a commanding lead ending the half up 17-4.

Seven of Oglethorpe's 11 goals came in the second half with the game already largely decided as Piedmont's offensive onslaught set the tone from the beginning giving the Lions an eight-goal victory over the Stormy Petrels in the end.

Up next, the Lions will take on Sewanee at the WAC on Thursday at 4 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont's deafening run of ten unanswered goals that silenced any thought of an Oglethorpe rally early in the contest, a stretch which saw PU score ten goals in just over 24 minutes of dominant game action for the home team.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Isaac Harrington had four goals on eight total shots with five of those on goal to lead the way for Piedmont offensively.
- Oglethorpe's Michael Fox was a bright spot in the loss for the Petrels scoring five of OU's 11 goals in the contest.
- Four other Lions tallied multiple goals in the win for Piedmont including Joseph Whitmore and Will Isley who both have scored now eight goals on the season for PU.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Seven of Oglethorpe's 11 goals on the day came in the final 22 minutes of game action while Piedmont scored 17 of its 19 goals in the first 30 minutes of the game.
- Starter Mike Eisele was part of a by committee day in the cage for the Lions as Piedmont used five different goalies with youngster Phillip Bell tallying a team-high three saves while Eisele only allowed one goal.
