Volleyball Takes on LaGrange, Centre in Saturday Doubleheader

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Piedmont volleyball concluded its weekend in Lookout Mountain, Georgia with a pair of losses, falling to LaGrange and Centre Saturday afternoon.

The Lions started the day off on a high note, taking a set off the Panthers in the team's CCS match to start the day before falling in three sets in non-conference action to Centre.

Match 1: LaGrange 3, Piedmont 1

The Lions raced out to a fantastic start, taking the first set against LaGrange. It was a back-and-forth battle throughout, but the Lions prevailed late, winning four of the final five points to take the set 25-22. Zoe Coelho delivered a service ace to give Piedmont a 1-0 lead.

However, the Panthers recovered to take the next two sets 25-16 and 25-15 to retake control of the match.

The Lions provided resistance in the fourth set by jumping out to an 11-5 lead. Unfortunately, LaGrange responded immediately with a 5-0 run to cut the Piedmont lead to 11-10. Although the Lions led 18-14 and again at 22-21, this time the Panthers were able to prevail late by winning four of the final five points to take the set 25-23 and the match by a 3-1 margin.

Katie Hubbard delivered a standout offensive performance, leading the team with 12 kills while also providing a double-double with 12 digs. Continuing her pursuit of 1,000 career digs, Coelho recorded 26 to lead the Lions.

Match 2: Centre 3, Piedmont 0

With the team's CCS matches out of the way, the Lions stepped out of conference to battle Centre out of the SAA to conclude the weekend.

The Colonels prevailed in straight sets, winning all three by a 25-17 margin.

In the defeat, senior Aria Foerst led the way offensively, tyinig her season high with four kills. Coelho added an additional 15 digs to put her over 40 for the day. She also led the squad with three service aces.

Up next, the Lions will celebrate Senior Day with their final home match of the season, hosting Agnes Scott in CCS action this Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
