Hubbard's Career High Leads Volleyball Past Toccoa Falls 3-1

DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont volleyball roared past Toccoa Falls, 3-1, behind Katie Hubbard's career-high 19 kills on Tuesday night at Cave Arena.

With the Eagles making a return trip after defeating the Lions in five sets at Toccoa Falls last week, the Lions flipped the script on Tuesday, emerging victorious in a four-set thriller.

 
The senior Hubbard delivered one of her career-best performances, reaching 19 kills to go with 15 digs and an efficient .283 hitting percentage.

On the defensive end, senior Zoe Coelho paced the team with 20 digs. Coelho was one of five Lions to reach double digits, joining Hubbard, Lauren Caricato (15), Abbye Carver (14) and Erin Lemons (11).

Although Piedmont led most of the way through the first set, the Eagles stayed close, forcing the Lions to win in dramatic fashion, taking the final two points to take the opening set 25-23.

Piedmont left no doubt in a strong finish to the second set to take a commanding lead. The Lions won five of the final six points of the set, with a pair of kills from Hubbard and Bailey Daughtery leading the way.

While the Eagles were able to eke out a competitive third set to push the match to a fourth, the Lions responded by jumping out to a lead and holding off a late charge to take thw in.

Up next, the Lions will return to CCS action on the road, battling Wesleyan tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Macon, Georgia.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont closed strong to win three of the four sets late.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Hubbard's 19 kills marked a career high for the standout senior from Colorado.
- Coelho reached 20 digs once again, leading the team in the category.
