DEMOREST, Ga. - In a heartbreaker, the Piedmont men's basketball team lost 92-91 to Covenant inside Cave Arena Tuesday. The Lions claimed the lead inside the final 3:30 to play and led by as many as five but were unable to close it out.
The Scots banked a last second 3-pointer on their final possession to take the lead 92-91 and Piedmont was unable to answer for the victory.
Dylan Patrick posted a career-high 27 points to lead all scorers and scored seven in the final 3:01 of the game to help the Lions stay in it.
Covenant took an early lead in the contest before the two bounced back and forth in the first half. The Scots led by as many as eight and took a four point lead into the half, 48-44.
Piedmont claimed the lead in the second half on a
Bailey Wiseman 3-pointer with 14:30 remaining, but Covenant quickly built back an eight point lead again with just over 10:00 to play.
The Lions used a 9-1 run to claim the lead, 76-74 off a
Caleb Lesch 3-pointer, and a late battle ensued. Neither team led by more than three until
Javi Marlowe converted a pair of free throws with 2:31 to play to make it a five point lead for the Lions.
Piedmont led by three with 34 seconds to play after a
Dylan Patrick layup but again, Covenant answered and fouled to send Patrick to the line with 15 seconds to play. He converted 1-of-2 and a 3-pointer sealed the win for the Scots.
Next, the Lions head to Maryville on Friday to face the Scots at 6 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- A 3-pointer for the Scots on their final possession proved to be the difference in Tuesday's game.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

Dylan Patrick scored a career-best 27 points in the game to lead all scorers. He also added seven rebounds and five assists.
NEWS AND NOTES:
- Piedmont's three conference losses have come by a combined 10 points including a one-point loss Tuesday and a two point loss to Huntingdon earlier in January.
