DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University men's soccer team battled to a 3-3 draw against the Falcons of Pfeiffer early Saturday afternoon. The Lions held a 3-1 lead at one time in the second half but back-to-back goals from the visitors leveled the contest.
The Lions struck first in the 15th minute as
Davis Knight put away his sixth goal of the year. After receiving the ball down the right wing, Knight outpaced the defense of the Falcons to bury home the game opener. However, it took just over four minutes for the Falcons to respond and level the contest 1-1.
Though Pfeiffer controlled the possession for the remainder of the half, they remained unable to break the tie heading into the break.
Piedmont found new life right out of half and in the 57th minute, Knight earned a penalty kick opportunity after being dragged down in the box. Calm and collected, senior
Jason Aussin stepped up to take the opportunity and beat the keeper for the second Lions goal of the game.
Freshman
Mason Keith kept the scoring going in the 63rd minute after tapping home a ball played from the top of the box by Aussin.
The Lions looked poised to close out their 2024 home opener with a win, but late momentum for the Falcons flipped the script. A pair of goals from the visitors in the 66th and 67th minute swung all momentum their way with the contest now tied at three. The home squad fought hard to hang on for the remaining 23 minutes of action and the match concluded in a 3-3 draw.
Up next, Piedmont has a quick turnaround with another home contest on Sunday at 1 p.m. against William Peace.
