DEMOREST, Ga. - Zeke Swartz pitched a gem over eight innings helping lead Piedmont to a 4-0 Friday night shutout win over Huntingdon in the series opener.

It was a quiet game early as it was a 1-0 contest until the seventh inning. Piedmont scored the lone run through the first few innings after a walk with the bases loaded drove across a run in the second inning.

Zeke Swartz gave up a single hit in each of the first three innings but kept the Hawks at bay.

The Lions were able to tack on two more in the seventh inning after back-to-back singles by Spencer Muffuletto and Trace Cate and they were driven in by Kyle Carlson. With a 3-0 lead, Swartz pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth and let Tyler Roon take over in the ninth.

Piedmont's offense was able to add another insurance run in the eighth as Cate drove in Kolton Hicks

In total, Swartz pitched 8.0 innings allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out four. Roon closed out the ninth facing the minimum with one strikeout.

Up next, Piedmont will face Huntingdon Saturday at 2 p.m. on Alumni Day on campus.
