DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's lacrosse team blitzed Muskingum in the second half to win 16-7 on a beautiful Thursday evening in Demorest.
Trailing 4-2 midway through the second quarter, the Lions were able to tie the game just before halftime and then took the lead two minutes out of the break to spark a furious run that saw them pull away in the third quarter for the nine-goal win.
The victory marks Piedmont's first at home this season in just the second contest in Demorest in 2024.
The Lions were led offensively by sophomore
Isaac Harrington, who tied his career high with four goals while adding an assist. Fresh off his second USA South Offensive Player of the Week and an appearance on the USILA DIII Team of the Week, senior
Brady McGuire tacked on three more goals and added a pair of assists.
On the defensvie side, junior
Eric Fewell caused a career-best five turnovers as the Muskies committed 22 overall.
Johnny Matrona made 10 saves in goal while
Noah Glenzinski won 12-of-19 faceoffs and led the team with eight ground balls.
Also on the offensive side, freshman
Joseph Whitmore scored a season-best two goals and scored for the first time since the season opener against Oglethorpe.
After the Lions raced out to a quick lead thanks to goals from
Ian Parr and Harrington, Muskingum answered with four goals in a row to take the 4-2 lead. However, from that point forward, it was a 14-3 run from Piedmont over the final two and a half quarters.
Piedmont scored a pair of man-up goals to close the half and make it 4-4 and then delivered the onslaught to start the third, scoring six times in the third quarter to lead 10-4 before the Muskies were able to find the net again.
The Lions continued to pour it on in the fourth, as Harrington scored twice in the period while Whitmore capped the scoring in the final minutes with his second of the game.
Up next, the Lions will host Spalding next Monday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
