Lions Dismantle Spalding 25-1 to Conclude Non-Conference Play

DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont men's lacrosse put an exclamation point on a fantastic non-conference slate, dismantling Spalding 25-1 on Monday afternoon in Demorest.

The Lions took an early lead and never looked back, scoring 10 times in the opening quarter and then adding five goals in each of the subsequent quarters to pour it on.



 

Overall, 17 different Lions scored goals, led by a career-high five from sophomore Isaac Harrington, who has now scored nine goals over the past two games.

Numerous Lions scored for the first time in their careers, as Colin Hackshaw, Noah McGriff, JD Cheatham, John Dieterly, Joseph Wrenn and Drew Wilson each tallied their first career goals with Wrenn and Dieterly adding two apiece.

Senior standouts Michael Anderson and Brady McGuire spread the wealth, with Anderson dishing out a team-high four assists while McGuire added three.

Noah Glenzinski was a perfect 5-for-5 in faceoffs in limited action while Dieterly won 16-of-23, a season high for the freshman.

Three goalies saw action for Piedmont, with Johnny Matrona earning the start and making one save, Mike Eisele and Trey Tuggle each saw action, delivering two saves apiece in the win.

Piedmont accrued 53 shots on the day and surrendered just 12 to the Golden Eagles, while the Lions also held a 30-10 edge in ground balls.

Up next, the Lions will move into conference play, as they welcome Southern Virginia to the WAC this Saturday, March 16 at 1 pm.

TURNING POINT:
- The Lions blitzed Spalding out of the gate, scoring 10 times in the first quarter to remove all doubt early on.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Harrington added a career-high five goals.
- Anderson tallied a season-best four assists.
- Dieterly won a seson-best 16 faceoffs and converted two of them into goals.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- Piedmont's 7-1 start to the season marks the best eight game run to start a season in program history.
