BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Piedmont women's lacrosse team defeated the Knights of Southern Virginia in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon by a final score of 15-14. Junior
Jadyn Gleason scored the final two goals of the game, including the game-winning goal with just seconds remaining.

Ava Trankina opened the scoring in the contest, quickly giving Piedmont a 2-0 lead. The Knights responded in a huge way shortly after, pouring in six unanswered goals over the next seven minutes. Southern Virginia threatened to run away with the game but late first period goals from freshman
Savannah Limehouse and junior
Merryn Bumpass pulled Piedmont back in.
The Lions and Knights continued to trade blows into the second period. Crone and Trankina both found the back of the net in the second but five goals from Southern Virginia gave them an 11-7 lead headed into the break.
The half time intermission provided pivotal for the Lions as the team launched themselves back into the contest in the third. Allowing zero goals in the period, Bumpass and Limehouse both scored their second of the day while junior
Aly Reece and senior
Maggi Spratlin scored their first. The four goals from the Lions reset the contest at 11-11 with 15 minutes to play.
The scoring continued into the fourth as Piedmont's Spratlin and Limehouse gave their squad a two-goal lead with 07:50 to play. Southern Virginia leveled the contest minutes later with back-to-back goals, making it 13-13 with 3:15 to play.
Gleason then gave the Lions the lead once again with 2:26 remaining. The Knights rallied once again, leveling the contest with just 00:27 left to play. Then, off the final restart, Trankina won the draw control and connected on a short pass to Gleason. Streaking down the middle of the defense, she put in the game-winning goal with just 00:14 left. The 15-14 win marks the first time in program history that Piedmont has beaten Southern Virginia.
Up next, Piedmont returns home for a midweek contest against Centre College on Wednesday, March 20.
