ORLANDO, Fla. - Piedmont men's tennis continued its strong play in Orlando, dispatching Wisconsin-Superior by a 7-2 margin on Wednesday morning to make it 3-0 so far on the spring break trip.

The Lions were solid across the board Wednesday, recording a pair of doubles wins and taking five of the six singles lines, with some coming in dominant fashion while others saw the Lions prevail in hard-fought matches.

The duo of Yannick Wassmer Navarro and Connor Phelps began the festivities by rolling to an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, the second straight dominant performance for the pair in Orlando. They were followed by Mike Porcelli and Charles Parnell, who rolled 8-3 at No. 2 to improve their record together to 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets responded at No. 1 doubles, winning a hard-fought match in a breaker (8-7 (4)) over Piedmont's Simon Johnstone and Silas Sandles.

With the Lions owning a 2-1 edge going to singles play, Piedmont needed three matches to clinch. The senior Porcelli was up to the task first, stepping into to the No. 3 slot to win 6-2, 6-2. The senior is now 3-1 at the No. 3 slot this season.

Two-time CCS Rookie of the Week Rohan Kavali was up next, battling through a tough opening set to come out on top, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6. Kavali is now 5-1 in dual matches this spring.

Finally, it was Sandles who delivered the clinch, winning a dominant first set before holding off his opponent by winning a second set breaker to close it out for the Lions, 6-1, 7-6 (2). Sandles is now 7-3 in dual singles matches this season.

With the outcome in hand, the final three matches all went to third-set tiebreakers, with the Lions coming out on top in two of them. Wassmer Navarro emerged with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 victory at No. 1. Fellow sophomore Phelps conquered his match at No. 4, winning 3-6 6-3, 10-8. This marked the first third-set breaker win for Phelps this season.

Wisconsin-Superior was able to take down Mark Backeberg at No. 2 in a third-set breaker (6-7 (6), 6-2, 10-5) to make it a 7-2 final.

Up next, the Lions will conclude play on their spring break trip by battling Hampden-Sydney and Loras tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
