ORLANDO, Fla. - Piedmont men's tennis concluded a perfect 5-0 Orlando trip with a pair of wins against Hampden-Sydney and Loras on Thursday.

The Lions began the day exacting revenge with a 6-3 win over Hampden-Sydney before trouncing Loras in the evening.

Match 1: Piedmont 6, Hampden-Sydney 3

After losing a hard-fought battle to the Tigers last season in Orlando, the Lions were able to return the favor on Thursday morning, prevailing to move to 4-0 on the week in Orlando.

The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams continued to show continuity to help the Lions get off to a solid start. Yannick Wassmer Navarro and Connor Phelps pushed their winning streak to three with an 8-5 win at No. 3 while Charles Parnell and Mike Porcelli also won 8-5 to move to 4-0 together as doubles partners.

The Tigers were able to win at No. 1 doubles to take some form of momentum into singles as their duo Dillon McReynolds and Casey Coffey outlasted Piedmont's Simon Johnstone and Silas Sandles (8-7 (4)) in a tiebreaker to make it 2-1 Lions. This marked the second consecutive day that Sandles and Johnstone have lost in a breaker at No. 1 doubles.

Singles action saw Wassmer Navarro continue his dominant play at No. 1, as the sophomore from Spain dispatched McReynolds (6-0, 6-2) in short order to make it 3-1. One day after earning the clinch in the win over Wisconsin-Superior at No. 5, Sandles slid back to No. 6 and continued to win, moving to 8-3 on the season in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph.

Then, it was fellow senior Porcelli who closed the door, with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 to make it 5-1 in favor of Piedmont.

The Tigers fought back by picking up wins at No. 5 and No. 3 to close the gap, but Parnell put an exclamation point on the match with a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win at No. 2 to make it a 6-3 final.

Match 2: Piedmont 8, Loras 1

The Lions jumped on the Duhawks from the very beginning, sweeping all three doubles matches in dominant fashion before winning 5-of-6 singles matches to close it out.

Piedmont cruised in all three doubles matches, beginning with Wassmer Navarro and Parnell rolling, 8-1, at No. 2. Jackson Traylor and Rohan Kavali then took an 8-1 victory as well, prevailing at No. 3 for the duo's second win together on the trip. The No. 1 team of Sandles and Johnstone rebounded from losing their last two in tiebreakers to win in dominant fashion (8-2) and give Piedmont a 3-0 lead going to singles.

It took less than 45 minutes for Traylor to put Piedmont within a point of clinching, rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4.

Wassmer Navarro then delivered the clinch, winning (6-4, 6-2) at No. 1 for his fourth combined win of the day across singles and doubles. He is now 9-3 in singles matches this season, all coming at the top spot in the lineup.

Then, with the match in hand, the Lions did not let up. Kavali won his third singles match of the trip, this time a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot to make it 5-0.

While the Duhawks were able to bank a point at No. 6, Piedmont immediately answered back as freshman Brent Sherman won a marathon match (4-6, 6-4, 14-12) by grinding out a third-set match tiebreaker at No. 5.

Finally, it was Johnstone who concluded the evening by taking a second-set breaker to win in straight sets (6-2, 7-6 (4)).

Up next, the Lions will look to extend their winning streak to six, hosting Salisbury this coming Monday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
