Match 1: Ohio Northern 5, Piedmont 4
Unlike Saturday night, Piedmont was unable to rally back from a rough start, with Ohio Northern coming out on top by a slim 5-4 margin.
The Lions did take a doubles match on Sunday morning, as
Bri Laidman and
Abbey Grace Venham won, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles to put a point on the board. The win gives Venham 100 combined singles and doubles wins over her Piedmont career.
The win at No.1 helped stave off another doubles sweep as the Polar Bears took matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
ONU rolled in straight sets at No. 5 singles to lead 3-1 before Piedmont bounced back as Saturday's hero
Dakota Wilkes came through again, this time with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3.
Then, after Venham fell at No. 1 singles to put ONU within a point of clinching the match, the Polar Bears delivered the clinch with a two-set win at No. 2.
The Lions fought back even after the outcome was decided, with
Jordan Ballard winning at No. 6 singles, followed by
Alyssa McSpadden rallying from down a set to win a third-set match tiebreaker to end the match.

Brook Patton and
Dannie Evans prevailed 8-2 at No. 1.
