BENTONVILLE, Ark. - On Tuesday, November 12th, the team made the long drive to Bentonville, Arkansas, for collegiate mountain bike nationals. The week had great weather. A little rain rolled in just before racing, making the course less dusty and fast. Any slick, muddy sections were dried before racing started.
The team spent Tuesday and Wednesday getting ready, pre-riding, and focusing on the future racing.
Thursday, the 14th, the team kicked off racing with dual slalom. The course was long and flowy with many turns.
Mariajose Montoya,
Emma Frost, and
Katie Prowell all cracked the top 40. Montoya placed 14th, Frost 35th, and Prowell 38th.
On Friday, the 15th, the endurance riders raced the rocky, technical cross-country. On the women's side,
Grace Wilson finished 18th, Prowell 18th, Frost 25th, and Montoya 40th. On the men's side,
Shannon Himstedt placed 24th and
Ben Kolbie finished in 40th. While the endurance riders were racing, the downhill riders were doing non-timed practice runs.
Saturday, the team wrapped up the endurance racing with short track. On the women's side, Frost placed 17th, Prowell 22nd, and Wilson 25th. On the men's side, Himstedt placed 20th and Kolbie placed 29th.
On Sunday, the final day of racing, the team raced downhill finals, racing the track twice and having their times added together. On the women's side, Montoya placed 17th, Wilson 35th, Frost 37th, and Prowell 38th. For the men,
Samuel Woodall placed 29th,
Dexter Cahill 33rd, and
Hayden Bassett 39th.
Overall, the team placed 7th in the omnium out of tons of great schools. In the individual omnium, Montoya placed 8th, Frost 9th, Wilson 10th, and Prowell 11th.
