DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Colonels of Centre late Sunday afternoon. Despite multiple chances in front of goal, the Lions offense remained unable to crack the Centre defense.
Piedmont controlled the majority of the early possession, firing off five of the first six shots of the contest. However, the Lions fell behind when Centre opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. The Lions continued to launch away, leading in first-half shots 8-5 but trailed in the contest at the half time whistle.
Out of the break, the Colonels found their rhythm, immediately testing keeper Colin Sheeler. The Piedmont defense stood strong before finally conceding a second goal in the 80th minute of action.
The Lions had opportunities to close the gap, even in the waning minutes, but failed to record a goal.
Up next, Piedmont welcomes LaGrange to Demorest for the conference home opener on Wednesday, October 9 at 6 p.m.
