MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont University men's soccer team picked up a big road conference win against the Hawks of Huntingdon late Saturday afternoon. Junior
Cristi Pascaru scored a late winner after the Lions conceded the equalizer early in the second half.
In a contest full of offense, Piedmont was the first to break through. Off a long clearance from a Huntingdon corner, junior
Colin Vogel blew past the Hawks' back line and slotted home a one-on-one opportunity for the lead.
Out of the break, the Lions offense continued to hammer away at the Huntingdon net for insurance, but it was the Hawks to strike next. Despite having just two shots in the second half, Huntingdon capitalized on its limited opportunities and took advantage of a pair of Piedmont mistakes to equalize the contest in the 65th minute.
The Lions continued to press, finding a prime opportunity for the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute. After a point-blank look from freshman
Jack De Santo was turned aside, senior
Jason Aussin collected a loose ball just outside the box before being brought down hard. Awarded with a free kick chance, the left-footed
Cristi Pascaru stepped up and gave the Lions the lead with a brilliant strike.
The defense for Piedmont continued to frustrate the Hawks, allowing no more shots as the Lions closed out the 2-1 road win.
Up next, Piedmont travels to Toccoa Falls for a non-conference match up on Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m.
