Baseball Drops Final Non-Conference Contest to Oglethorpe 7-3

DEMOREST, Ga. - In the final midweek non-conference contest of the season, the Piedmont University baseball team was upended at home Tuesday in a 7-3 loss to Oglethorpe.

Piedmont fell behind early as Oglethorpe scored two in the top of the first off starter DALTON ANDERSON. The Stormy Petrels had two runs on three hits, but the damage was limited with two stranded. 

The Lions were not able to answer back until the third inning but when they did, it was two runs on two hits to tie the contest. KYLE CARLSON doubled to start the frame and stole third. With two outs, ISAAK MULLANACK was walked and stole second to put two in scoring position. 

A CARSON STROVINSKAS 2-RBI single tied it as he finished the game with two of Piedmont's three RBI. 

In the fifth, Oglethorpe was able to capitalize with a walk and two singles off Anderson before the Lions went to the pen to GARRETT BURTON. The Stormy Petrels drove in three total in the frame to take a 5-2 lead.

Piedmont was able to add a run in the seventh after a KYLE CARLSON double to start the inning and TRACE CATE drove him in on an RBI single. Burton pitched until the ninth when NATHAN BOYCE took over with two on and no outs. 

With the bases loaded after an intentional walk, the Stormy Petrels tacked on a run and added a total of two runs in the top of the ninth. 

Oglethorpe totaled 12 hits while Piedmont added 10. 

Piedmont will head to Huntingdon for the final road CCS series of the season this weekend beginning Friday.

TURNING POINT:
--The Stormy Petrels were able to tack on three runs on three hits in the top of the fifth to claim the lead. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--KYLE CARLSON had a pair of doubles in the contest as he was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk. His doubles started a pair of innings and led to runs for the Lions.
