DEMOREST, Ga. - Behind a solid offensive performance and
ZEKE SWARTZ picking up his second win of the season, the Piedmont University baseball team earned a 7-1 win over Bridgewater Sunday afternoon. Swartz earned the win pitching five innings without allowing an earned run.
The Lions' offense went to work early as Piedmont scored two in the first off a
TYLER NELSON double to the gap in left center. The Eagles were able to answer back in the top of the second with their lone run of the game, but it was unearned after a passed ball let the runners advance earlier in the frame.
With a 2-1 lead, Piedmont went back to work in the second inning as
JAMES WHITMER began a 2-out rally with a single and then was moving on the pitch to hustle and score on a deep double off the wall by
COLE ELLIS.
Ellis had just one hit in the game, but made it count with one of two extra-base hits for Piedmont Sunday. In the third with two in scoring position,
NATHAN MIX belted a 2-RBI single to make it 5-1 and a decisive advantage for the home team.
ZEKE SWARTZ pitched five innings before giving way to
BRADEN SIMMS who posted a quality outing earning the save and striking out five.
The Lions were able to score once more in the bottom of the sixth, and forced a pitching change by the Eagles in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont scored five runs in the first three innings to take a commanding lead.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

BRADEN SIMMS entered in relief and closed out the contest with a save pitching the final four innings of the game allowing just two hits and striking out five.

KOLTON HICKS led Piedmont with three hits going 3-for-4 with a run and a walk.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
--Sunday's score was exactly half that of Saturday's score between these two teams.
