DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team picked up its second consecutive 9-0 conference home win on Saturday, blanking Berea on Senior Day.
Prior to the match,
ALBERTO NUNEZ and
RYAN RAUGH were honored for their contributions to the program before they both picked up dominant singles and doubles wins on the day.
The Lions controlled all three doubles matches from start to finish and then proceeded to take all six singles lines in straight sets to earn the sweep.
CONNOR PHELPS teamed with Raugh at No. 2 doubles to put the first point of the match on the board, as the duo moved to 7-1 in dual matches together this season.
JACKSON TRAYLOR and
LEO GALARZA then rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 3 before Nunez and
YANNICK WASSMER NAVARRO picked up their second straight win together at No. 1 doubles (8-1).
Â
Piedmont continued the dominance as singles play began, quickly clinching the match as Raugh (6-1, 6-0) and
SIMON JOHNSTONE (6-0, 6-0) rolled at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Nunez then polished off a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles to make it 6-0 in favor of the Lions.
With the first three matches in the books, No. 4, 5 and 6 singles took to the courts, looking to preserve the shutout. The trio did just that as
AUSTYN ADDERLY (6-1, 6-2) won at No. 4 while
JC FOSTER (6-0, 6-1) lost just one game at No. 5 before Galarza completed the shutout with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6.
Up next, the Lions will be right back in action as they make a trip to North Carolina to battle Guilford on Sunday at 1 p.m.
