JACKSON, Miss. - The Piedmont baseball team saw a seven run lead disappear late in a 12-10 loss at Belhaven on Friday afternoon.

The Lions came roaring out of the gate, with three home runs over the first three innings and taking a 10-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh. However, the Blazers did not go away, scoring five times in the seventh and four more times in the eighth to take a second straight two-run win in the series.

The Lions were first on the board with a leadoff home run from COLE ELLIS to set the tone quickly. In the second, it was small ball that got the Lions back on the board with three straight singles from MAC BARTONISAAK MULLANACK and BLAKE SILVEY.

With a 2-0 lead after two, that lead doubled after a CARTER BALLSTADT single put him aboard for a KYLE CARLSON home run to make it 4-0. After keeping the Blazers quiet through the first two innings, Belhaven scored three runs on one hit in the bottom of the third to cut into the lead 4-3.

An error, walk and a single loaded the bases to start the fourth inning and KOLTON HICKS took advantage. Hicks belted a grand slam to make it an 8-3 lead for the Lions.

Piedmont tacked on another two in the fifth as the Lions scored in every inning of the game until the sixth. However, from there, the bats were silenced by the Belhaven bullpen.

The Blazers' offense mounted a furious rally starting in the seventh after Piedmont starter ZEKE SWARTZ was lifted. Belhaven tallied nine hits and nine runs against Piedmont's bullpen over just two innings and the Lions' offense was unable to respond.

The series finale is scheduled for Saturday pending the weather and field conditions.
