JACKSON, Miss. - The Piedmont University baseball team dropped the conference opener at Belhaven 6-4 Thursday. Piedmont led 2-1 after five but errors proved costly for the Lions. 

TYLER NELSON hit a solo shot to left to put Piedmont ahead 1-0 in the second inning, but the Blazers answered back in the fourth to tie the game. 

Another solo homer for Piedmont, this time from ISAAK MULLANACK, put the Lions back out in front 2-1 in the fifth inning. In the sixth, the Blazers were able to claim the lead with two runs on two hits and an error to lead 3-2. 

In the eighth, the Blazers were again able to score with three runs on two hits and two errors as Piedmont had five errors in the game. The Lions allowed just two earned runs in the contest. 

BODIE EILERTSON suffered the loss despite pitching seven innings and allowing just one earned run. He gave up seven hits and struck out four. 

Up next, game two of the series will take place at 2 p.m. Friday. 

TURNING POINT:
--The Lions surrendered three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on two hits and two errors to fall behind by four. 

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--ISAAK MULLANACK had a pair of RBI for the Lions going 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run, the first of his career. 

NEWS AND NOTES:
--Thursday's game marked the first ever CCS conference game for the Lions.
