DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont men's tennis team finally opened the home slate with a 9-0 sweep of Maryville in the team's CCS opener on Tuesday afternoon in Demorest.
The Lions were victorious in all three doubles matches and took all six singles lines as well in straight sets.
Playing together for the first time this spring,
YANNICK WASSMER NAVARRO and
ALBERTO NUNEZ teamed up at No. 1 doubles to roll to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles and put the first point on the board for the Lions.
The Scots showed fight at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but the Lions took control of those matches as well, as
KODY DILLS and
BRYCE VANORDER picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3.

Moments later,
SIMON JOHNSTONE and
SILAS SANDLES completed the doubles sweep for Piedmont with an 8-3 victory at No. 2.

Singles action brought more Piedmont domination, once again started off by Wassmer Navarro. The freshman from Madrid, Spain delivered a clinical 6-1, 6-0 win to put the Lions a win away from clinching the match.
The clinch came from VanOrder at No. 2, as the junior played a perfect second set en route to another win, 6-2, 6-0.
Nunez delivered a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 to keep the shutout hopes alive for the Lions with 4,5 and 6 still to play.

Playing No. 4, freshman
CONNOR PHELPS delivered a 6-2, 6-2 win for his third singles win of the season while Sandles was victorious, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 to garner his first win at No. 5 singles this season.
Finally, Dills closed out the festivities and gave the Lions their second 9-0 shutout of the season with his 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Up next, the Lions will remain at home, hosting CCS foe Berea for Senior Day. The match is scheduled for this Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m.Â
